Sag-Aftra Bargaining Agreement

Under this agreement, various incentives for casting are available. SAG-AFTRA offers low-budget filmmakers a casting incentive that can increase the maximum overall production cost and thus bring it into the realm of cinema agreement, which would increase prices, and other payments that a low-budget film might not be able to afford. For a diversity attitude, see section 3(a) of the Agreement on Public Funds. Residues are based on formulas that take into account factors such as the contract in place each year, the time spent on production, the type of production and the market in which the product appears. All performers who have been hired or upgraded under a principal performer contract whose performance remains in the final product are entitled to arrears. Background actors do not receive residues and are not entitled to them unless they are promoted to lead actors. So what exactly is a collective agreement? Collective bargaining is a kind of negotiation process between employers and a group of workers with the common goal of defining conditions and reaching agreement to regulate working wages, working conditions, benefits and other aspects of workers` compensation and workers` rights. SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) is a union that represents more than 160,000 film and television actors, radio, video game actors, advertisers (radio and television), news presenters, singers and recording artists (licensed artists and background singers), performers in commercials and actors who work as stuntmen and special artists. It is dedicated to protecting the interests of its members and improving wages, working hours and working conditions through a series of contractual arrangements (some of which are summarized above) that apply when one of its members is involved in a production. If you`re working with actors who aren`t part of the guild, don`t worry. Under this agreement, these players are allowed to work with a Taft-Hartley agreement, as with most SAG agreements. Unlike SAG Class A fares, you`ll have to pay a little more if New York is one of your cities, which is why most opt for the first deal.

The 1st utilization rates are: According to this special theater agreement, you can only hire SAG-AFTRA actors as lead actors and the first 57 hired background actors must also be members of a union. If your production requires more than 57 underground actors, the 58th hire and beyond do not need to be unionized and therefore do not fall under the terms of the theater contract. If you intend to hire a lead or substantive actor (and you have not employed 57 other substantive actors) who is not yet a member of SAG AFTRA, you have 30 days from signing the contract to submit the relevant Taft-Hartley report to your company representative, as well as a headshot and CV, in order to grant trade union status and comply with the rules of the contract. There are 6 types of theatre contracts. All this is determined by the budgetary level: all categories are subject to the existing framework agreement and the television agreement. Under the television contract, performers and background artists are insured for their work on programmes that are signatories to the SAG-AFTRA television contract. Under the television contract, there is a required quota of 21 substantive actors, and for all non-unionized lead actors who are hired, and productions of feature actors aged 22 and over, they must submit the appropriate Taft-Hartley report with a headshot and resume. The Moderate Budget Small Budget (MPA) project agreement covers non-episodic content productions budgeted between $300,000 and $700,000 and shot entirely in the United States. The contract must be performed at least 1 week before each work of the performers. The AMP applies to films that were originally released in one of the following films, but an initial release in one of the following points is not required: As with most SAG chords, the more time you set aside for the actors, the less time you have to pay them per day.

SAG-AFTRA members cannot work on a project unless the studio, production company or producer is a signatory to the relevant SAG-AFTRA agreement. If you don`t understand the basics, it can lead to hefty fines. Although this article attempts to set out the foundations of the joint treaties, it is by no means a complete summary or list of SAG-AFTRA agreements. There are always gray areas by state and project, and you should always read your agreements and check them carefully. Unlike other signatory agreements, the New Media Agreement does not require minimum remuneration. Initial compensation is fully negotiable under the SAG-AFTRA New Media Agreement for productions that do not meet the high budget threshold. While there are no minimum requirements under the agreement, there are local, state, and federal minimum wage laws that must be followed as they still apply. Payment is due to the performer no later than five working days after the date of work. SAG Pension and Health or AFTRA Health and Retirement contributions are due on the negotiated initial remuneration of 17%. Sag-AFTRA TV contracts are based on content type, medium and, in some cases, budget. For example, shows that go directly to a streaming service (like Netflix) and have a budget of less than a million may fall under the new media agreement, but for all shows exceeding that budget – even if they go directly to streaming – the SAG-AFTRA TV agreement applies.

SAG-AFTRA divides TV contracts into four categories: Unlike SAG deals for cinema (where everything is determined by budget), prices in the TV world are determined by the number of episodes you are going to create and, in most cases, by the length of the episode. Amazon, Instagram, YouTube – these are just some of the goals that the Screen Actors Guild calls “new media.” Whether you`re making a movie or a series, both fall under this deal as long as your budget ranges from $50,000 to $1,000,000. And unlike other SAG AFTRA Theatrical agreements, you don`t have to provide a theatrical screening under this agreement. When a company becomes a signatory, it accepts the working conditions of the professionals represented, protected and rented under the basic contractual contracts. These include: Now, almost a hundred years later, SAG-AFTRA still strives to organize all the work done under its jurisdiction, negotiate the best wages, working conditions, health and pension benefits, create employment opportunities, enforce contracts and protect SAG-AFTRA members from unauthorized use of their work….
